Slough Town travelled to Wheatsheaf Park hoping to put a dent in the play off aspirations of their neighbours who were looking for an upturn of their own form.
Slough were already impacted with the loss of Ian Hodges through injury and things got worse in the ninth minute when Mark Nwokeji's run took him into the area and Mark Avery's sliding tackle took out the striker. Ali Chaaban converted the penalty well to Clark Masters left with the keeper diving the other way.
Michael Currie thought he'd scored when he flicked a Michael Murphy corner goalwards. The ball bounced down off the bar but was deemed not to have crossed the line.
Gareth McCleary went close for the Rebels when his low effort had to be tipped around the post by Shaun Allaway. From the resulting corner, McCleary again tested Allaway with a strong strike which Allaway saved at the near post.
Slough got themselves level in the 29th minute as McCleary turned provider. Feeding in a corner from the left, captain Steve Daly won the aerial battle at the back post and headed home.
Nwokeji restored the home sides lead right on half time and he followed up on a superb save from Masters to just about get the ball over the line despite Masters best efforts.
The home side had the better of the chances in the second half with Nwokeji, whose pace was causing the Rebels back line problems all afternoon, bringing two good saves from Masters, but otherwise it was a dour affair.
Daly thought he'd added a second for Slough in injury time but he had converted Andy Ballard's cross into the net with his hand.
