Second-half goals from striker Adam Cornell and defender Reece Yorke helped Slough Town come from two goals down against Paulton Rovers to claim a point at Winterfield Road.
It was the home side who started the match well early on as Slough struggled to adapt to the difficult blustery conditions. They went close twice when the ever-dangerous Nick McCootie volleyed the ball over after a cross from the right, then soon after the same player fired straight at Jake Somerville from the edge of the area.
The Rebels' best chance came when returning striker Ed Smith was found by Alex Witham after a fine challenge from George Frith. Last season's top-scorer hit his chipped effort just over the bar.
The home side went ahead though on twenty-one minutes. Some fine play on the right saw the ball flashed across goal only for the unlucky Reece Yorke to divert it past Somerville into his own net.
One-nil soon became two just seven minutes later. John Davies picked-up the ball in midfield and drove past the Rebels defence to hit the ball low into the corner of the net.
In the second period with the wind in their favour Slough started far more brightly and controlled the match early on, but they received a blow when Smith pulled up with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Cornell.
That change though did not harm the Rebels with Cornell a constant threat in the match. They went close to pulling a goal back when Yorke saw his effort saved by keeper Kyle Phillips - then from the rebound George Short also saw his effort hit the bar and rebound to safety.
Slough continued to push forward though and pulled a goal back when the lively Cornell headed into the net following a cross from Witham to reduce the deficit.
Then just three minutes later the away side were back on level terms. The unmarked Yorke headed home a corner from James Dobson on the right powerfully into the net.
From that point on both sides could have then taken the three points. First Witham found himself through on goal following a fine run after a pass from Yorke. Unfortunately for the former Biggleswade midfielder the ball did not run kindly for him and he was only able to volley the ball powerfully into Phillips’ arms.
Then with minutes remaining a fine low-drive by midfielder Williams saw Somerville dive to his right to produce an outstanding save. But
in truth a draw was probably a fair result as both teams were forced to share the points.
