Slough moved to third place in the league table with a comfortable win over North Greenford United at a freezing Holloways Park.

In an even opening quarter of an hour, Jake Somerville held a long-range strike from Daniel McDonnell, and George Short poked wide after Adam Foulser headed down from a long throw.

Slough heaped on the pressure, and Jamie McClurg volleyed over after a good team move which ended with the in-form Johnnie Dyer chesting the ball down to the midfielder on the edge of the box.

An unmarked Anthony O’Connor almost shocked Slough, blasting straight at Somerville from a narrow angle.

But on 33 minutes, Slough made their pressure count when Warren Harris capitalised on hesitant defending from Michael Dart, and nipped in to poke the ball past goalkeeper Lee Pearce, who had come out to try and clear the danger. Harris got enough on the ball to see it roll into the empty goal, with Daryl Brown unable to get back in time.

Harris almost made it two minutes later, but headed a Darren Wheeler cross wide.

Somerville needed to be alert again to snatch a shot from Myles Stephenson out of the air, and Short was frustrated again as Pearce saved his strike from the edge of the box. Slough went into the half time break with a single goal lead, despite a goalmouth scramble which saw Pearce bravely save a couple of efforts, first a well-controlled volley from Harris, with several more blocked.

Ryan Lake replaced the injured Guy Hollis at half time, but it did not disrupt the momentum of the game and the Rebels doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half. Wheeler swung in a corner, which bent straight into the top corner of Pearce’s goal. The keeper tried to push the ball away, but succeeded only in helping it into his own goal, with Wheeler being credited with the goal.

The visitors battled on in search of a goal, and Warren Harris was alert to hack the ball away after a free kick caused problems in the Slough box.

With fifteen minutes remaining, the three points were secured. Dave Woozley's header hit the post from another Wheeler corner, and Dyer followed up to score his seventh goal in the last four games.

North Greenford should have pulled one back, but David Taylor contrived to miss with only Somerville to beat, and O'Connor hit the post as he tried to force the ball in. But the Rebels claimed a clean sheet to go with a comfortable victory ahead of the visit of Daventry Town on Saturday.
