Slough welcomed back Dwight Marshall for this vital match at the Meadow, that they needed to win to have any hope of avoiding relegation.
The Rebels fans could not have asked for better support for the vital tie, over half of the 449 spectators present appeared to be Slough supporters.
Chesham started off as the better side with Duru looking the Generals' main attacking threat. And early on they tried to test young Matt Hockley in the Slough goal.
Just as it seemed that Slough were beginning to settle down in the match they conceded a penalty. DJ Campbell ran at the Slough defence only be be tripped by Darron Wilkinson in the area. Club captain Brian Statham stepped up and placed the ball into the corner of the net.
News soon broke through of Purfleet being a goal up against Harrow Borough, but that result would not matter if Slough could not beat Chesham. So soon after the goal Slough started to have more control on the game and half chances fell to Coombs, Asamoah and Rainford, but none of them could take their chances.
Then just before the break, disaster struck as a mix up between Hockley and McPherson saw Chesham's player of the season Derek Brown left with an easy tap in.
Slough now needed three goals against a strong Chesham defence to survive. Sadly for Slough fans and players, it looked as though Chesham would be more likely to add to their lead.
The second half saw plenty more chances for Chesham against a Slough side who looked as though they already knew their fate. Campbell had a chance which was cleared off the line by Steve Daly and Mark Watson had two chances where he shot wide when well placed.
Slough had chances through Darron Wilkinson and Steve Daly, who both saw their shots deflected just wide, but the ball never looked like going in for the Rebels.
And so the match ended with Slough fans standing at the Chesham terraces in disbelief in being relegated. Nobody at the start of the season would have thought the club would be relegated, but it's happened and it's Ryman League Divison One football for the Rebels next season.
