Cliff Hercules
Cliff Hercules turned back the clock with a vintage performance up front as Slough ran riot in their last home game of the season with a 4-0 thumping of relegated Stalybridge.
Freed from the shackles of his defensive duties, former striker Hercules scored twice in the first half and helped set up the third for Mark West, with Danny Bolt adding the fourth seven minutes from time.
With West and Hercules up front, it was just like the old days at Wexham Park, with two of the handful of survivors from the Dave Russell era dictating things upfront.
Brian McDermott got ruthless with his squad, benching Corey Brown, Garry Abbott and Danny Bailey after recent under par performances.
Hercules opened the scoring on six minutes receiving a through ball on the edge of the box from Gary Brazil, and turning to fire a low shot past the Stalybridge keeper.
On 23 minutes he doubled his tally, as Bolt pounced on a poor throw by the keeper, beat one man and crossed for Hercules to deliver a glancing header into the opposite corner.
The Rebels effectively wrapped things up four minutes from the break when Hercules won the ball in midfield and laid if off to Paul Hardyman, and his cross was met at the far post by West with a downward header.
Bolt had been unlucky not to add a cracker of his own midway through the first half when his 25-yard free kick, won, incidentally by Hercules, cannoned off the crossbar with such ferocity that the ball landed back outside the area.
But Bolt was given his rewards in the 83rd minute, the 22 year old midfielder firing home from just outside the box to notch his 13th of the season and put himself equal second overall in the club with Lloyd Owusu behind top gun Gary Abbott.
