A tight but lively 1-1 game against one of the lower sides saw the Rebels drop another two points in their bid to finish in at least their second-best Conference place ever.

Kettering broke the deadlock on 71 minutes to take the lead but Slough came back quickly to get a share of the points.

Slough pushed forward early and after five minutes a good interchange between Gary Abbott and Danny Bolt ended when Bolt's shot was well saved by the keeper low to his left.

Then three minutes later, some good work by Cliff Hercules saw a back header by Corey Browne smothered at the near post. Kettering's Chris Pearson was a constant danger to the Rebels and a pass in the 13th minute found the striker in the clear — but he was thwarted by a fine save by Paul Wilkerson.

On the half-hour mark, some further pressure from Slough saw Bolt's pass find Abbott whose shot just failed to find the target. But the threat from the visitors was not far away and Pearson again was through — but Wilkerson again came to the rescue.

On the hour, Pearson again had a free header from a cross by Robbie Mutchell. but it went over.

But immediately Kettering did take the lead when a Berry cross found Mutchell, who whipped in a fierce volley past Wilkerson.

Slough hit back two minutes later when the visitors could not clear from a corner and a goal-mouth scramble led to Hercules forcing the ball home.

Lloyd Owusu made an appearance in the 77th minute when he replaced Abbott.
