A POINT apiece on a bitterly cold Easter Monday afternoon saw the Rebels fight out a 1-1 draw with their Somerset visitors. It was a game full of action to provide plenty of entertainment for the disappointing crowd of 912.
The visitors started the brighter side and early on created two chances which Slough had Cliff Hercules to thank for clearing the danger. First he cleared Steve Parmenter 's swirling wind assisted cross off the line after a terrific goal mouth scramble then from the corner Hercules, again headed off the line again with Paul WIlkerson struggling
Slough hit back with a fine ball inside to Danny Bolt from Gary Abbott on the right to set Bolt up with a low left-footed effort which keeper Tony Pennock saved, as Slough began to settle to the wintry conditions.
A Matty Stowell flick on from a deep Gary McGinnis free kick found Gary Abbott. but he met the ball rather clumsily allowing it to run wide. Another fine Rebels attack saw Gary Brazil feed Bolt who darted inside his marker before seeing his shot across goal somewhat fortuitously deflected away.
Terry Angus then drove just wide after Pennock had beaten out a free kick to the edge of the area which Angus met with a right-footed strike. But Slough’s late first half dominance finally paid off seven minutes before the break when Bolt and Brazil again combined in an obviously well practised move.
Bolt played a short corner to Brazil, he back-heeled to Bolt, who in turn centred for the rising Abbott who headed home past Pennock from close range.
The Rebels started the second half in much the same vein as they had ended the first and dominated early proceedings as they searched for a second goal. A terrific run from Corey Browne was followed by a pass out to Bolt who let fly from 20 yards which stung the hands of Pennock, who grabbed the ball at the second attempt.
The Yeovil keeper had to be very brave after Brazil and Bolt again linked up; Brazil's ball to Bolt setting up a run and shot which Pennock smothered as he raced from his goal line.
Yeovil levelled against the run of play five minutes later. A free kick awarded on the right touch line was swung into the box, met by Steve Stott who bundled from close range. This equaliser seemed to spur Yeovil on and they took control for the next ten minutes.
Terry Angus cleared another goal bound Yeovil effort by Patmore, then Owen Pickard lobbed the advancing Wilkerson but another piece of resolute Slough defending, this time Rob Smith nodding off the line and over. From the corner, Patmore's power header was tipped acrobatically over the bar by Wilkerson. After that frantic spell, Slough settled down again and were very unlucky not to have regained the lead themselves nine minutes from time.
Cliff Hercules thundered a strike in from the edge of the area which Ben Smith cleared off the line, although the Yeovil youngster did not seem to know anything about it as Hercules' thunderbolt struck him square in the stomach, then Abbott cracked the rebound against the bar with Pennock beaten all ends up.
Hercules again tried his luck right at the end with a run and low shot which Pennock held as Abbott advanced waiting to pounce.
