AFTER the excitement of the FA Cup, it was back to business for the Rebels at Hayes on Tuesday night, but forced to battle with ten men for most of the game, they were unable to lift themselves back to the heights of Saturday afternoon.
Defender Matthew Stowell was the unfortunate player to be sent off, shown the red card after 15 minutes for obstruction after he was left to deal with a poor header back to goal from Cliff Hercules.
Slough had started brightly, with Gary Abbott having a crack at goal in the opening minutes, but after the opening minutes they rarely threatened and were left to hang on.
To the Rebels credit, they kept the home side out for the first half, but goals from Brian Hammett and Junior Haynes in the second half sealed the game, and this time Slough Town lacked the resources to pull back from a deficit.
Manager Brian McDermott must be left wondering when he is going to win at Hayes - last season he saw his FA Cup hopes ended in the fourth qualifying round at Church Road, and there was a 5-0 drubbing to come later in the season.
The answer may come over Christmas, when Slough have a double header against their west London rivals, meeting at Wexham Park on Boxing Day and Church Road on New Year's Day.
