Two goals in the opening 23 minutes from Ed Smith set Slough on the way to a comfortable win over Sussex County Division One side Lingfield.
Further second half goals from Nathan Bowden-Haase and Dom Rhone followed, before Lingfield scored a consolation with a penalty from Daryl Coleman.
After a very bright start in which the visitors threatened to cause Slough problems, former Jamaica international Jamie Lawrence forced James Warrington into a fine save from a free kick, and former Northern Irish professional Gareth Graham fired just wide from 25 yards.
But with 16 minutes played, Slough registered the opening goal, Burnell cleverly touching back Sean Fraser’s ball across from the right to Ed Smith, who made no mistake in firing past the 6ft 10ins goalkeeper Rob O’Hara from six yards.
Seven minutes later, the same player made it 2-0. Lingfield’s neat passing broke down again and Slough won the ball back. The impressive Fraser was again involved, this time with another assist from the right, a low ball across the face of goal which Smith poked in from a yard out.
Lingfield had their chances, but failed to take them, with substitute Josh Coulson seeing a shot saved by Warrington, and Daryl Coleman blazing well over.
The half time lead was a comfortable one for Slough, and the home side extended it even further to effectively end the contest on 52 minutes. The unmarked Nathan Bowden-Haase got his head to a whipped free kick from Stuart Swift and gave O’Hara no chance, making it 3-0.
Just two minutes later, Slough threatened to run riot as they made it four. O’Hara could only parry Dom Rhone’s header to the same player, who notched his first Slough goal by reacting quickest to poke the ball in.
Smith wasted a glorious chance to complete his hat-trick as he took too long with his finish, and Alex Brown found himself with the ball at his feet from a corner, but couldn’t find space for a shot.
To their credit, Lingfield continued to try and play short passing football from the back, but were guilty of naivety on more than one occasion and lost possession easily. Smith was again denied by O’Hara as Slough wasted more chances to rack up the goals.
With nine minutes remaining, Lingfield had the chance to register a consolation goal as a free kick was handled in the wall. Daryl Coleman stepped up and scored at the second attempt, his initial attempt being ruled out for stopping in the run-up.
