Slough travelled to Marlow on the back of Saturday’s fine win against title favourites Windsor hoping to build on that result and secure a semi-final place against the old enemy in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.
Derek Sweetman named an unchanged side and seemed to be taking the match seriously as Slough’s last hope of silverware.
However, in freezing conditions the match remained lukewarm for long periods. At times the game seemed to take on the air of a training match with a slow tempo and a lack of any real goal mouth action. Both sides resorted to long shots, the highlight being a Platt shot from the edge of the area which former Rebel Kieron Drake saved comfortably at his near post.
In the second half Marlow started to take control of the game and began to create more clear cut charges. The clearest fell to Roche who unbelievably missed an open goal from two yards out. Jamie Jackson once again kept Slough in the game saving twice when a Marlow forward was placed clean through.
However Slough were slow to heed the warning and on 73 minutes the former Royalist Jon Case fired an unstoppable 20 yard shot bending past Jackson.
Despite a lack of opportunities Slough endeavoured to get back in the game but the effort did not produce any reward despite some tireless running from man of the match Scott Webb, who was looking to impress against his former club. Ultimately Marlow deservedly progressed to an away semi final at their own ground!
