Clark Masters
Slough made the journey over to Essex and again came away without anything to show for their efforts as a first half Sean Marks goal sealed the win for the Swifts.
Marks was the first to test Clark Masters as a header from close range was well held by the loanee. Marks again went close with a curling header from 14 yards as it dropped just wide of the post. He made no mistake though with nineteen minutes on the clock as he converted from the centre of the pitch after the ball had been fed in from the left.
The home side were firmly on top and could have extended their lead when Neil Cousins broke through, evading the attempted tackle from Steve Daly, but could not get the ball past Masters who made a good save and recovery as Marks attempted to follow up. Marks again went close as he pounced on a poor clearance from Aaron Steele to slam the ball just wide.
Slough's first shot of the game came in direct fashion. A long clearance from Steele saw Leigh Mason break through from midfield. Mason took his effort early from outside the box as the ball sat up nicely and Paul Nicholls did well to deflect the ball up over the bar after it had bounced in front of the keepers dive.
Marks again found the target at the other end but saw Masters produce another good save to deny the striker. Mike Shinn also had two good efforts stopped by the home keeper as Slough struggled to stay in the match with the home side dominating.
Despite being reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Paul Abbott after clashing with Leon Woodruffe, Slough still didn't look like getting back into the match.
Slough did manage to get the ball into the net as Leon Woodruffe delivered in an inswinging free kick from the right by the corner flag. The ball sailed over everyone and into the back corner of the net but it was ruled out for pushing in the area.
Heybridge held on comfortably for the three points despite being a player down.
