Carshalton Athletic inflicted Slough Town's first defeat in seven matches on Saturday and recorded their first win over the Berkshire side for several years.
Carshalton got off to a great start and Wade Falana's early effort was deflected past the post after the ball had been helped on by Gary Elliott and Mark Costello.
But after 11 minutes, Carshalton were ahead, with their loan signing of Phil Ruggles from Woking paying instant dividends. From Byron Glasgow's corner, Costello's shot was flicked on by Ruggles in the crowded goal area, the ball finishing up in the net.
This spurred Carshalton on and a three man move ended with Costello hitting a dangerous cross over the Slough goal area but the ball drifted harmlessly away.
Slough equalised after 21 minutes after Carshalton conceded a free kick 20 yards from goal in the middle of the pitch. There appeared to be a gap to the right of the defensive wall which was spotted by Simon Ullachorne, who placed the ball into the net.
After 37 minutes Carshalton regained the lead in fortunate circumstances. An Orlando Hollingsworth cross was met by the head of Ruggles inside the penalty area. The ball appeared to be comfortably covered by the keeper but it then hit defender Anthony Howard who diverted it into his own goal.
Slough created chances in the second half without seriously threatening to score.
Neville Roach had a chance to equalise for the Rebels when a defensive miskick saw the ball fall at his feet but he was unable to take advantage of the lapse and Stuart Searle gathered.
Michael Gilkes then tested Searle with an awkward bouncing shot that skidded on the greasy surface but the keeper made a potentially difficult save appear comfortable.
After 80 minutes a long ball out of defence was hit over the heads of the Slough defence by Neil Robson. Falana used his pace to latch onto the ball but keeper Steve Mautone raced out to smother the ball.
Slough's Mark Hawthorne was sent off late on after an off-the-ball incident.
