The Rebels received another relegation blow with a comprehensive defeat against fellow strugglers Croydon on Monday night.
In a first half that saw both sides have plenty of possession, the defences dealt with most attacks. Peter Garland tried a spectacular first time shot from Graham Harper's pass from 20 yards out, which was saved by ex-West Ham and Reading keeper Steve Mautone in the Slough goal.
Soon after Matt Dickinson rose at the far post to head a Peter Garland corner wide. Then on 20 minutes Dickinson then made a vital challenge to foil Markman who would have been clean through on goal.
Just before he had to go off injured, Mark Hall came the closest to opening the deadlock. His cross-shot from wide on the right hit the top of the bar with keeper Cleevely beaten.
Then on 40 minutes, the Trams went 1-0 up when Nic McDonnell hammered the ball into the roof of the net from five yards out after Omari Coleman's ball into the box.
The Rebels would need to improve their performance if they were going to get anything out of the game, but conceded a second five minutes into the second half. A long kick by Cleevely was missed by Timothy, Rainford and Stott for McDonnell to grab his second of the game.
On 57 minutes, it was 3-0 when after Slough lost possession from their free kick and Peter Garland shot from outside the box and the ball went in after an awful fumble by the injured Steve Mautone in Slough's goal, who was replaced by rookie keeper Matt Hockley immediately after.
The visitors pulled a goal back on 73 minutes to make it 3-1 when Dave Timothy ran through and beat Les Cleevely at the near post to give the Rebels some hope. It was Timothy's first goal for the club.
Despite the Rebels' best efforts though they could not get back into the match and Croydon's Richard Thompson made it 4-1 when from close range he hit a shot into the roof of the net from a following corner.
