A stunning first half performance from Slough Town was enough to earn victory at home to Purfleet on Saturday and stamp their authority as the ones to catch in this season's Ryman League Premier Division.
New signing Leon Townley, a defender signed from Brentford, was the star of the show, scoring a superb goal and claiming the man of the match award on his debut.
Slough took the lead after just 11 minutes when Mark Hall nodded home a pin point cross from lively midfielder Mark Hawthorne.
And it was Hawthorne who hit the killer blow five minutes later, firing home an early contender for Slough's goal of the season.
Hall won the ball in midfield and linked well with full back David Timothy to set Paul Barrowcliff on a run.
His cut back was perfect for Hawthorne whose shot from all of 35-yards was sim-
ply out of this world, hit with the side of Hawthorne's boot and crashing into the net via the underside of the bar.
And, just when the Rebels fans though it couldn't get any better, it did.
A far post corner from Micky Engwell was not cleared by the Purfleet defence
and Townley held the ball up, turned his marker and emphatically fired the ball in from six yards, for a superb debut goal after 32 minutes.
The half-time break seemed to stop Slough in their stride and Graham Roberts' side just played out time without too many worries at all.
Chances fell for Hall and Engwell, but second half substitute Eddie Denton will wonder how he failed to score as he missed a dangerous cross from Youness Nabil on 75 minutes.
And Nabil, who went close on numerous other occasions had a golden opportunity to hit a fourth for Slough after a poor pass back from Purfleet's Gary Howard, but Nabil's shot went agonisingly wide.
