Conference newcomers Cheltenham are flying high near the top of the Conference, and Slough manager Brian McDermott knew his team's visit there on Tuesday would be no easy ride.
The Rebels have shown their reserves of resilience away from home already, and this game was no different as it took until the 70th minute to break the deadlock.
Corey Browne raced down the left, beat the challenge of Jamie Victory and sent in a cross that Danny Bolt glanced in.
It was what Slough deserved after shutting out an inventive home side in the first half and taking the game to them in the second, but their lead was to last only four minutes, as Victory pulled his side level with a shot from the edge of the box.
McDermott said after the game: "It was probably a fair result, but when you go a goal up away from home it's nice to hang on to it.
"We might have nicked it right at the end when Cliff Hercules had a chance."
McDermott stuck with the team that had won on Saturday, with the exception of Gary Abbott who was starting a three match ban.
Lee Randall took his place, but he in turn made way in the second half for Mark Fiore to make his return, having been out since the opening day of the season.
