THE Rebels failed to cash in on Corey Browne's first goal for the club when they met Halifax Town at Wexham Park on Saturday.
The Shaymen made a lively start following last week's win at nearby Hayes, Geoff Horsfield hitting the crossbar with a header from Peter Jackson's cross with the game only five minutes old.
And Jamie Paterson, who of all the 22 players stood out most, threatened to open the scoring soon after when he pounced on a weak back pass which needed a swift challenge from Slough keeper Ben Miles to clear.
But in a game which neither side were able to dominate, Halifax survived a couple of early corner scares after Jackson's headed clearance from a Danny Bolt cross from the left had cleared his own bar by inches.
However, Halifax's newly-signed keeper Lee Martin looked comfortable taking Bolt's shot from 18 yards, having earlier snuffed out Lee Randall's centre aimed at the head of Slough's top striker Gary Abbott.
With Paterson dragging another chance across the face of the goal, the Shaymen looked the more likely to score at this point.
Slough fluffed a gilt-edged chance in the 26th minute when Martin could only parry Bolt's well struck drive from 20 yards and Gary Brazil scooped the rebound over the bar from six yards.
Paterson squandered another chance when he could only screw a shot wide as Halifax took their turn to attack.
And Miles did well to save at the feet of Gary Brook who looked odds on to the deadlock on a goalbound run, Cliff Hercules saving Slough when the Halifax striker was presented with the rebound.
Bolt, however, helped Slough into the lead four minutes before the interval when a deep cross from the left was tapped back at the far post by Brazil and Corey Browne was left the simplest of first goals for his new club from short range.
Martin made saves after the restart from Abbott and Brazil as Slough tried to widen the gap, while Browne missed another golden opportunity in the 66th minute after the Halifax keeper had failed to hold onto a Terry Angus header.
Down the other end, Paterson whacked the upright with a bending free kick and Hercules arrived just in time to block Horsfield from a corner as the pressure continued.
Paterson finally hit the target from the penalty spot after being brought down by former Exeter midfielder Danny Bailey, and he sent Miles the wrong way to level the scores.
Miles completed a busy afternoon dealing with more shots from Horsfield, one effort also hitting the chest of Paul Hardyman on the line and earning Darren Lyons one of four yellow cards for the Shaymen as a scuffle broke out.
