Slough continued their resurgence in the National League South after an impressive victory over high-flying Dorking Wanderers at Arbour Park.

The visitors dominated the opening exchanges, but Slough were first to threaten when Matthew Lench’s strike from distance was well held by Stuart Nelson.

However, Dorking were dealt a blow with experienced centre-back Sami El-Abd forced off through injury just before the half hour mark.

Josh Jackman fired an effort wide from just inside the box, whilst Jonathan North had to be alert to block from Alfie Rutherford.

With 35 minutes played, Lench embarked on a long run from inside his own half into the penalty area, which ended in him being brought down for a spot-kick which was slammed home by Aaron Kuhl.

Dorking almost levelled when Callum Kennedy got up to meet Niall McManus’ corner, but his effort rebounded back off the crossbar.

But the Rebels added another not long after, as the lively Lench whipped in a delightful corner on the right, and Freddie Grant escaped his marker and provided a bullet header in front of the jubilant Slough supporters - his fourth goal of the season.

On the hour mark, Rutherford stung the fingertips of North when he beat Guy Hollis to a ball forward from midfield, with the goalkeeper turning the ball behind. Shortly after, McManus saw a shot charged down by the Slough rearguard.

The hosts had a golden opportunity to put the game to bed before Dorking responded. After Nelson had rushed out of his penalty area to deny Alfonso Tenconi, Aaron Kuhl drove the ball over top of the bar when he will feel the target should have been hit.

Dorking cranked up the pressure in the closing stages and managed to pull a goal back on 87 minutes, as the unmarked Alfie Rutherford headed into the bottom corner after a cross from the left, leaving Jonathan North in goal rooted to the spot.

As Dorking piled bodies forward to get an equaliser, Slough broke quickly through George Hunt and Aaron Kuhl, who then found Lench on the right of the penalty area, but he couldn’t divert the ball beyond Stuart Nelson who palmed the ball away.

The result sees Slough extend their unbeaten run to five league games, whilst Dorking lose their six game unbeaten run in the league.
