Slough Town twice came back from a losing position at Bishop’s Stortford to add another point to their tally in their quest for a playoff place.

The hosts went to great lengths to ensure the match went ahead following snowfall in the area, even painting the lines blue.

Top scorer Chris Flood returned to the side after missing Tuesday evening’s match at King’s Lynn, but the Rebels suffered a blow as he was forced off with a foot injury in the 38th minute of the match.

By this point, both sides had hit the woodwork – Manny Williams struck the crossbar for Slough with James Dobson unable to follow up, and the hosts were denied by the base of a post moments later.

Slough started the second half sluggishly and were punished on 53 minutes. Nathan Smart took too long on the ball as he tried to find the right pass upfield, and striker Alfie Mason capitalised, winning the ball and running clear before beating Jack Turner to score his first senior goal.

The Rebels responded well after falling behind, but failed to find the target. Perry Coles – who replaced Flood in the first half – hit a post and Williams’ follow-up shot was blocked. Minutes later, a free kick from Dobson was well saved by Calum Kitscha.

Ben Harris made a welcome return from injury on 68 minutes as he replaced Williams, and the striker took just seven minutes to make a difference as he finished coolly after the hosts failed to clear Dobson’s blocked shot.

But Bishop’s Stortford regained the lead on 81 minutes, with Darren Foxley firing in off a post from outside the box after good hold-up play from Jordan Westcott.

Slough pushed men forward and were rewarded with a second equaliser two minutes from time. Mark Nisbet’s ball forward found Coles onside and through on goal, and the striker made no mistake, firing in a shot which went in via a post.

The Rebels’ next scheduled match is another away match at St Ives on Tuesday evening.
