Slough got back to winning ways after four defeats in the space of nine days with a morale-boosting victory at Aylesbury on Thursday evening.
The victory was comfortable in the end for Slough, who went ahead with a quarter of an hour played after an even start. Jake Parsons drilled a low ball across the face of goal and Ed Smith ended his recent goal drought with a tap-in from six yards.
Smith looked set for a second almost immediately after, but his low drive was saved by goalkeeper Richard Roberts' legs after the returning Stuart Swift had played a delightful ball through to him.
On 20 minutes, Aylesbury equalised as Slough showed their defensive frailties again. Kevin Ayodele lofted in a high ball which was met by the head of Sonny French, the striker beating Jamie Jackson to the ball and looping it over the despairing keeper.
Far from being disheartened by this, Slough stuck to their task and regained the lead on 41 minutes. Another cross in from the right from Ashley Deeney was controlled by Ryan O'Toole, who saw his initial shot blocked but on the rebound, drilled past Roberts to end his own run of four games without a goal.
And two minutes later, a corner was met at the back post by Adam Martin whose powerful header beat Roberts and the covering defender on the line and gave Slough the cushion of a two goal lead at the break.
Slough picked up where they left off in the second half, keeping the pressure on Aylesbury and continuing to play neat football with full use of the flanks. Smith struck a shot over from 25 yards but was on hand to claim his second goal of the night on 52 minutes. The ball fell invitingly to him when O'Toole's cross was deflected across goal, and Smith volleyed in.
Joe Chandiram, who had replaced the injured Ollie Burgess in the first half, fired over from just inside the box, whilst Aylesbury threatened rarely, and mainly through French, whose fine run ended with him getting in a shot which Jackson parried away.
Adam Martin shot into the side netting after Smith had done well to hold the ball up, but as Slough tired slightly and looked happy to sit on their lead, Aylesbury came forward and Kwesi Frempong, Davis Haule and Lynton Goss all fired efforts off-target as the game drew to a close.
Slough had a slight let-off near the end as Smith was shown only a yellow card for a late tackle, which could have been punished more severely by the referee.
