Slough Town and landlords Beaconsfield SYCOB had to settle for a point apiece after an entertaining battle at Holloways Park.
Beaconsfield started the brighter of the two sides and Terry O’Connor flashed a shot wide from 20 yards early on, before his side took a 15th-minute lead. Chris Fermie conceded a free kick, which Stuart Swift whipped to the far post, to be met by the head of skipper Paul Brett, who planted his effort into the net.
SYCOB had a number of chances to extend their lead in the first half, with Jamie Jackson on hand to save at the feet of Bradley Bubb when it looked like he should have scored.
Will Dunlop put a free header wide from another Swift free kick as Slough struggled to come to terms with the aerial threat.
Slough’s equaliser came against the run of play from top-scorer Matthew Platt after 31 minutes. Byron Bubb’s jinking run was brought to a stop as he was tripped in the box, and a penalty was awarded. Dean Harper’s effort cannoned back off the crossbar but fell nicely to Platt, who still had a lot to do but finished coolly to level the scores.
Bradley Bubb wasted another glorious chance for the Rams as he steered a low right wing cross off target when it looked easier to score. Slough had another let-off minutes later as Dean Harper made up ground superbly to clear off the line with Beaconsfield looking certain to score again.
SYCOB were made to pay for their profligacy as Slough took a fortuitous lead five minutes before the break. A long ball over the top was headed back towards his own goal from 20 yards by Will Dunlop, but goalkeeper Hart was out of position and could only watch as the ball rolled into his own goal.
Slough enjoyed a much better second half, in complete contrast to the first, and will feel like they could have held on to win the game.
The Rebels dominated the early stages of the second half and Danny Jordan was unlucky as he smashed a shot on the turn against the crossbar after Platt’s knockdown. Moments later, he was thwarted by Hart as the striker tried to round the goalkeeper outside his area after he was put through by Makh.
Slough continued to pile on the pressure with Byron Bubb seeing a shot blocked. The resulting corner was flicked on by Harper but Platt but his header agonisingly wide at the far post.
However the Rebels could not hang on for the three points as SYCOB gained an equaliser on 75 minutes. Beaconsfield broke down the right wing and the prolific Bradley Bubb struck low and hard into the corner to earn the Rams a point.
