An injury time goal from Mike Davis denied Slough Town a win and first clean sheet of the season at Holloways Park.

It could have been even worse for the Rebels but two outstanding saves from Jamie Jackson ensured Slough took a point from the game.

The home side started brightly enough with some controlled passing and a much stronger-looking structure, with Sweetman appearing to favour a traditional 4-4-2.

Improved passing in the midfield resulted in early pressure from Danny Jordan and Yashwa Romeo slicing through the Bishops Cleeve defence with ease. On the few occasions where Cleeve did break through, the strengthened back four, which clearly benefited from the welcome return of Dean Harper, held firm. Jackson once again looked dominant in goal and pulled off some crucial saves.

A number of half decent efforts fell Slough’s way but in the first half, it seemed the crucial final ball into the box was just missing that little spark of quality the strikers’ required. Regardless, the home side went at half time in with their heads held high and a much-improved performance compared to the previous Tuesday.

After the break, Slough were quicker out of the blocks than the visitors and continued the smooth style of play which had helped them dominate the first half. Despite this, Cleeve came close on a couple of occasions, forcing Harper and Fenton to continuously outleap the enormously tall Julian Alsop.

Finally, in the 65th minute, the Rebels broke the deadlock thanks to a hardworking passage of play between Jordan and the midfield, which resulted in a looping cross from DJ finding McConigley in the box, who headed the ball into the path of Romeo, allowing him to toe-poke home from 3 yards.

Continued pressure from the Rebels for the next 15 minutes resulted in no further strikes, and by the 80th minute, it was clear that the home side were either tiring or switching off. Whichever it was, what resulted was ten minutes of pressure from the visitors, who suddenly found a second wind and punished the Rebels in the 90th minute with a left footed strike from Mike Davis from the edge of the box.

In truth, Slough could have gone on to lose the match, as the pressure from the visitors continued, raining down shot after shot on a sleepy Slough defence. Jackson made an outstanding point-blank save to deny Alsop which meant that Slough kept one point, having been at risk of throwing that away too.
