Rebels keeper Steve Mautone was ready to play in Slough's scoreless draw at Dulwich on Saturday - but was told before the start by manager Steve Browne that he would not be needed.
Mautone had been out of action almost constantly since breaking three fingers in the match against Barking two months ago. His continued absence had coincided with a noticeable dip in form by the Rebels.
His understudy, Dominique Jean-Zepherin, has proved unpredictable and almost gave the home side a gift goal at the start of Saturday's encounter, rolling the ball out of the feet of Dulwich striker Warren Burton who was too surprised to turn his luck to good use.
After this let-off, the Rebels once again provide the masters on the park but a difficult win was always going to make accuracy or intricacy - a Slough trademark this season - tricky if not impossible.
To make matters worse for Slough who are looking to finish as high in the league after automatic promotion became impossible they lost midfielder Kieran Gallagher.
Towards the end of a game which saw previous few chances, Gallagher fell awkwardly and had to be stretchered off with suspected ligament damage.
With the result something of a lottery, Slough's best chance in the first half fell to Michael Gilkes who just brushed the upright with a volley.
In the second half Neville Roach had a solid volley shot well parried by Dulwich keeper James Mercer and the incoming Sammy Winston was just unable to connect with the loose ball.
