It was a case of Harrow Borough needing the points more than Slough as an unconvincing showing from the Rebels saw them succumb in a scrappy game.
Despite a second half revival in which Marcus Richardson struck two goals to pull the Rebels level, Harrow's persistence paid off as they got a late winner with a good strike from Jon Barrie Bates.
He picked up the ball well outside the box and he ran at the Slough defenders, who just stood motionless in a line and Bates gave himself room to drive a curling shot which beat keeper Danny Honey just inside the post.
Slough produced little in the first half, persisting in pumping balls forward and generally losing possession.
An ineffective midfield gave the impetus to a determined Harrow who took the lead on 38 minutes when a free kick was crossed in at pace by Frank McCormack and Pat Gavin ran in at the far post to head in strongly past Honey.
Slough went 2-0 down just after half-time when another cross in found John Hurlock unmarked and he nipped the ball into the net.
Richardson reduced the arrears on 51 minutes with a fine solo effort when he outpaced defender Danny Nwaokolo and slotted past David Hook.
He equalised on 76 minutes when Kenny Dyer got down the right and drove the ball in across goal where the tall striker was on hand to find the net.
But Harrow's need to get away from the relegation zone drove them on to secure the winner in the 85th minute.
