A late double strike from ex-rebel Gary Abbot saw Slough fail to get a hard earned away point for the second week running at the Recreation Park on Saturday.

After a slow start Aldershot took control of the game and looked particularly dangerous with Junior Harvey and Jason Chewins combining effectively down the left-hand side.

The Rebels defended deep looking to catch Aldershot on the counter-attack with Junior Haynes looking a threat on the left wing and Dwight Marshall causing problems up front.

Chances were limited with neither keeper truly being tested in the first half despite some positive attacking from both sides. Heavy rain and a strong wind also made

incisive play difficult.

Slough's best opportunity of the half came on 35 minutes when a Mark Hall cross found Marshall but the striker was unbalanced when taking his shot and fired just wide.

The Shots almost took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Danny Honey punched a corner out to Wayne Andrews whose shot from 25 yards was wasteful.

The second half was only four minutes old when Abbott had a goal disallowed for offside. An Andrews cross found the striker unmarked at the far post and he blasted past Honey.

Two minutes later Hall found himself through on goal only to be brought down just outside the box by 0llie Adedeji who was promptly sent off. Barrowcliff took the free kick which was blocked and another free kick this time from Mark Hawthorne seconds later was deflected over.

However the Rebels numerical advantage only saw the Shots more determined to grab victory.

On 56 minutes Bentley was brought down by Hawthorne just outside the box and his subsequent free kick was tipped wide by Danny Honey at full stretch.

On the hour Marcus Richardson came on for David Rainford to provide Slough with more attacking options. His pace, however, failed to trouble the strong Aldershot defence.

Aldershot began to look increasingly dangerous and only a superb last gasp tackle from the Rebels' own Captain Marvel, Steve Daly, denied Bentley a golden chance to

open the scoring. On 73 minutes Honey was tested again, this time knocking an Abbot shot over the bar after the striker had turned Slough defender Graham Kemp.

Just as the game looked certain to be heading for a goalless draw Abbott struck with two late goals.

He opened the scoring in the 89th after being fouled on the edge of the box by Chris White and scored from the subsequent Jimmy Sugrue free kick.

Seven minutes into injury time he was left unmarked at the far post to tap home a Simon Ullathorne cross.

With only seconds remaining he almost grabbed a hat trick with an audacious 30 yard chip that went just over.
