Walton came close to upsetting the form book, as they came into this cup tie on, a run of five defeats yet could have gone through with a slice of luck and some steadier finishing.
Walton had the superior passing game but lacked a final cutting edge, while Slough were all hustle and bustle - plenty of fitness but not much finesse.
The home side quickly grew in confidence, and striker Ansil Bushay - one of seven former Rebels in the line-up - was unlucky as early as the 20th minute when he lifted the ball over keeper Paul Wilkerson only to see Terry Angus head the ball from under the crossbar for a corner.
That set the scene for the rest of the half, with first Bushay shooting straight at Wilkerson and then Andy Sayer only half-hitting an effort from the edge of the box after being set up by Garfield Blackman.
The only Slough riposte was a long shot by Lloyd Owusu which zipped past the Walton goal on the stroke of half-time.
The home side really set about Slough after the break, and Bushay should have done better from 18 yards when Blackman put him clear.
Corey Browne missed a golden chance for Slough when he screwed his shot wide of the goal from close range, but it was all Walton for the next 20 minutes.
Sayer had a goalbound effort blocked, Wilkerson saved from Blackman, and with ten minutes left Bushay fired over. Late in the game Slough offered the greater threat but could not find a way through.
