It is early days to start talking about Terry Reardon's current Slough Town side as a championship winning team, but on present form the Rebels must be one of the early favourites for this season's Isthmian League, Premier Division title.
On Saturday at Wexham Park, they recorded their third straight win in as many matches, took their goal tally to 12 in three games and now proudly head the table as the only team with a 100% record.
Although the Rebels were not at their best in a rather scrappy, but exciting game, they proved one thing, and that is apart from having the talent and potential to succeed this season, they also possess a lot of character and commitment.
After scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes and seemingly having the game sewn up, they were rocked as Harrow hit back to draw level by the 55th minute. However, Reardon's "young Rebels" showed the commitment and character necessary in any successful side, to score two more goals and clinch another handsome victory.
With Dave Russell out with knee ligament trouble Rowan Dodds, the hero of the previous Tuesday's win over Hendon, was in the line-up from the start with Gary Attrell substitute.
It took Slough just five minutes to take the initiative, when Harrow goalkeeper Les Currell failed to hold a well struck Keith White free kick and Eric Young was on hand to knock the loose ball home from close range.
And within five minutes the Rebels were further ahead, thanks to a delightful goal from Devon Petty. When he received the ball from Dodds in the Harrow penalty area there seemed no apparent danger, but in one movement Petty turned, and noticing Currell off his line, chipped the ball over the 'keeper to see it hit the underside of the bar and bounce into the net for a truly great opportunist goal.
Minutes later Dodds burst through the Harrow defence but was foiled by Currell, and then suddenly Slough started to lose their way as their play became disjointed and scrappy.
Harrow reduced the deficit after 20 minutes when Knight knocked the ball over the Rebels defence and Mick Garrine hit a cracking shot past Frank Parsons.
The game gradually deteriorated into a rather scrappy affair and a number of cumbersome Harrow challenges went unpunished, until Harry Manoe was booked for a foul on Dodds after 45 minutes.
After the break Slough still struggled to find their rhythm, and within 10 minutes Harrow were back on level terms. Steve Jones outpaced the Rebels defence on the left with a fine run, and after his cross had eluded Eddie Hutchinson, the ball was hammered home by Steve Emmanuel from 12 yards out. There was was a strong suspicion of handball by Emmanuel before he struck the ball home, but despite strong protests from the Slough players the goal stood.
This goal seemed to suddenly wake up the "sleeping" Rebels and within seven minutes they were ahead again. A fine run on the left by Dodds ended with him being brought down by Roy Metz, and from the resultant spot kick Dodds successfully converted his third penalty in two matches. Slough then made the game safe after 73 minutes when from another White free kick, Joe Moloney was at the far post to slide the ball past Currell.
In the closing minutes Currell made brave saves to first foil Petty and then Dodds after a surging run by substitute Garry Attrell on the right, as the Rebels finished well in command to record another impressive win.
