Slough Town, after the double shock of manager Laurie Churchill's and captain Micky O'Sullivan's resignations, plus the surprise home defeat by Bromley at the weekend, picked themselves up brilliantly at Hitchin on Tuesday night to win by four clear goals.

The only incident to mar this fine performance was that Dave Yerby and a Hitchin player were sent off after a clash.

Slough handed out a real football lesson to Isthmian League opponents, Hitchin, on Tuesday evening. Two goals in each half from Eggie James, Roy Butler, Les Barrett and Joe Moloney were no less than Slough deserved from a match where almost everything went right for them.

The only incident to mar Slough's classic performance was the sending off of right back Dave Yerby. Yerby clashed with Hitchin defender Les Harriott in the 76th minute and referee Mr. R. G. Smith sent them both off.

That was the only bad moment in a match which the visitors dominated for long periods. They got the best possible start with a goal in the sixth minute. Butler's persistence took him past two weak challenges before he fed the ball through for James to stab it in.

Slough sat back for a while and allowed Hitchin to come more into the game, but goalkeeper Frank Parsons was rarely troubled, and both James and Eric Young might have added to Slough's total before Butler's bravery helped him beat goalkeeper Walker with a 45th minute header.

Hitchin's defence was all at sea in the first minute of the second half when they could only half clear the ball and Barrett rifled in a fine shot from outside the area.

After that Slough did much as they pleased. Young and Vic Akers snuffed out another Hitchin challenge and an impressive White had what seemed a fine goal disallowed for offside at the other end.

Slough rounded off a memorable night with a great goal in the 85th minute. James was set free down the left, he beat his man, and crossed to White who slipped it square for Moloney to coolly beat the goalkeeper from six yards.
