Premier Midweek FL
Attendance: 1000
Slough Town, by failing to beat Hayes in a Premier Floodlit Midweek League game on Monday evening, could lose the championship of their section of the competition as Hayes, with games against Hampton and Maidenhead to play, could pip the Rebels who have only one fixture left against Maidenhead. It was a poor display of football and the Bishops Stortford spies at the game could not have learned much.
The 1,000 plus supporters had a long time to wait for their football as Hayes arrived with similar colours to those of Slough and by the time they had acquired another strip it was well past eight o'clock. The first quarter of an hour produced some good football with Hayes showing up very well and giving Slough a lot of trouble.
Then for some reason best known to themselves Hayes adopted physical tactics and Slough are never happy when their opponents go for the man and not the ball. The longer the game went on the lower became the standard of play and one spectator who shouted out "this is a load of rubbish" was not far wrong.
Despite the succession of free kicks only one booking was made and that was against Thomas of Hayes. It was certainly one of the most disappointing games of the season at the Stadium and it's not surprising Tommy Lawrence said after the game "Definitely no comment."
