Slough made it safely through to FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying with this win at Maldon & Tiptree of the Bostik League Division One North.
James Dobson scored two of the goals on the day, and he was first to threaten Domonic Kurasik’s goal on six minutes, but the goalkeeper turned his free kick attempt behind.
The Rebels winger was again involved as he fired over from Mark Nisbet’s pull-back, and later he fired a low shot wide after coming inside from the left wing.
Maldon & Tiptree were lively in attack though, and they fashioned a chance for Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe on 33 minutes after good work down the right, but the striker’s shot was easily gathered by Jack Turner.
Slough took the lead four minutes before half time, with Matthew Lench once again on target. After back to back hat-tricks in the FA Trophy and FA Cup, he fired the ball on target from around 30 yards after a scuffed free kick from Kurasik fell straight to him.
The hosts pulled themselves level three minutes into the second half though, with Ryan Gondoh getting on the end of a long ball forward from Kurasik and firing low past Turner.
Slough responded with Dobson twice going close, first forcing a good save and then seeing another effort deflected just wide. But the winger was not to be denied a deserved goal on 61 minutes as the Rebels went back in front.
A cross-field ball found Dobson on the edge of the box, and he beat his man before cutting inside and firing into the top corner on his right foot.
Eleven minutes later, Dobson added a third goal to give his side breathing space. This time he took on a defender and thrashed a fierce shot past Kurasik from a tight angle at his near post.
The hosts remained a threat, and five minutes from time Nisbet needed to make a crucial intervention to block a goal bound effort.
But Slough remained on course for the win and added a fourth goal deep in stoppage time to confirm their safe passage, substitute Lee Togwell finishing coolly after playing a neat one-two with Lench.
