Slough Town recovered from a half-time deficit and defeated AFC Hayes at Farm Park, recording a fifth straight league win in the process, thanks to four second-half goals.
It was an important result, but one which the Rebels had to work hard for at Farm Park, which has been a bogey ground in recent years.
Hayes started the better of the two sides early on, with speedy forward Chakaodza going close for the home side, shooting just wide with Bullivant beaten.
The home side attacked down the right side of the box and went close to scoring, but Steve Perkins did well to clear the ball away from the line.
Simon Sweeney had a shot blocked before Hayes took the lead on 25 minutes, with Catlyn’s low drive from the edge of the box beating Bullivant.
Danny Burnell forced a good save from home ‘keeper Grant with a low left-footed drive before Slough’s best move of the half saw Murphy play the ball into Burnell, who in turn found Chris Herron, but the winger’s powerful right-footed shot was straight at Grant.
With Slough beginning to take control, Hayes looked dangerous on the break – but the Rebels went close again as Swift’s free kick was deflected just wide by Burnell.
Early in the second half, Slough were adamant they had forced an equaliser as Sonner slid the ball into the net after a pull-back from Burnell, but the linesman’s flag denied him.
But soon after, the excellent Herron crossed the ball in from the left, and Chris Seeby met the ball on the full-volley, scoring with a searing strike which gave Grant no chance.
Slough continued to press, and Burnell headed a Swift corner over – but Hayes regained the lead against the run of play just after the hour mark. Another shot from the edge of the area, this time from Maharjan, bounced past Bullivant and into the net.
Just four minutes later though, another sweeping move saw Slough pull level. Burnell played the ball to Sonner on the right, and the hard-working striker’s cross into the box was met by the head of Seeby at the far post, who powered his effort past Grant.
Minutes later, Slough missed a good chance to go ahead as Sonner controlled the ball in the middle and laid it off to Sinclair, but his low shot was blocked by Grant.
Slough’s pressure continued unabated though, and the visitors were not to be denied a third goal. With 73 minutes played, Swift sprayed a pass out to the left wing into the path of Herron. Grant ventured a long way out of his box to try and clear the danger, but found himself stranded as Herron got to the ball first and squeezed it through the legs of the keeper. Lurking in the six yard box was substitute Simon Martin, who slid in his ninth goal of the season to put Slough ahead.
Five minutes later, Slough put the game beyond the hosts with Danny Burnell swivelling in the area and finding the bottom corner of Grant’s goal with a strong low strike.
Both sides had chances to add to the scoring in the closing stages, but Grant pushed out a cross-cum-shot from Sweeney, making his 100th Slough Town appearance, and Maharjan shooting just past Bullivant’s right-hand post – but there was to be no tense finale as Slough claimed the points.
