Slough recorded another win on the road, this time at Soham Town Rangers, thanks to an early penalty from Simon Martin and Elliot Buchanan's first for the club.
The Rebels got off to the best possible start with just under two minutes played, as Craig O'Connor's bustling run was brought to an end illegally by Soham defender Moran. Simon Martin placed the ball on the spot and coolly sent Jamie Chamberlain the wrong way.
Despite the early setback, Soham showed they were not going to roll over easily, and had their fair share of possession without troubling Jamie Jackson in the Slough goal, though Rob Foster, a recent signing from Nuneaton, was looking dangerous on the ball. He deceived Sweeney before Edwards got an important block in.
Dugi Ogbonna put an effort wide for Soham before their best chance arrived, Libam missing narrowly at the near post after good build-up play between Hipwell and Ogbonna.
Slough made things more comfortable nine minutes before the break with a first Rebels goal for Elliot Buchanan. A short corner from Sealey was played to Buchanan, occupying a wide midfield berth in place of the injured Steve Sinclair, and he delivered a wicked cross-shot which deceived Chamberlain and found the bottom corner of his goal.
Slough were good value for their lead, and almost netted a third early in the second half with a succession of chances. First, Chamberlain parried a Kean shot wide from the edge of the box, before Craig O'Connor had a header ruled out for offside from Buchanan's excellent cross.
Paul Edgeworth was then played in over the top, and he rounded Chamberlain with ease, only to be denied by Martin Bromwich, who got back to clear off the line.
Soham were well marshalled by the Slough rearguard, only having rare glimpses of Jackson's goal. Scott Johnson's long range effort was handled easily by the Slough stopper, and Foster headed well over from a corner.
The Rebels were dealt a massive blow on 69 minutes though, as Tyron Sealey was forced off with a suspected dislocated shoulder following an innocuous-looking collision with Soham left-back Johnson. The winger was replaced by Tommy Hayes, who found himself with a sight of goal almost immediately, but his shot was too weak and straight at Chamberlain after he created the chance for himself well by collecting Edgeworth's cross-field pass and flicking the ball over a defender's head.
Manager Steve Bateman handed his son Sam a competitive debut for the final few minutes as Slough saw the game out comfortably.
