Roy Gumbs
Goals from Ryan Fenton and Roy Gumbs secured victory for Slough against mid-table Gosport Borough.
Yashwa Romeo came close to giving the Rebels a dream start, but his attempted lob from outside the box was plucked out of the air from just under the bar by the visiting ‘keeper.
At the other end, Luke Evans was at full stretch to deny a goal scoring opportunity for Gosport in a lively opening.
After 16 minutes, Slough opened the scoring with a very well-worked goal. Good interplay between Jordan and Fenton led to the latter being played in on goal, the defender drilling the ball low into the bottom corner for his first Rebels goal.
Further chances came for Slough, but Roy Gumbs side footed wide from 15 yards after good work from Romeo on the left.
Against the run of play, the visitors grabbed an equaliser on the half-hour mark when Graham Lindsey latched onto a header down to fire past Jackson.
In the second half, Slough continued to do the pressing, with Romeo seeing an effort blocked before the Rebels deservedly went back into the lead. Robbie Kean’s drilled ball across goal was turned towards goal by Romeo, whose effort was blocked, with Simon Sweeney’s effort on the rebound being saved brilliantly by Hutchings. However, Roy Gumbs made no mistake from just under the crossbar, and, like Fenton, notched his first goal of the season.
Gosport later had a penalty appeal turned down, and Graham Lindsay shot wastefully wide on the volley, but chances were few and far between and Slough were good value for the three points.
