Slough Town recorded a resounding victory at Bishops Cleeve thanks to a strong second half performance.

The Rebels got off to a flying start after just five minutes with a goal from debutant Shaun Byrne. Yashwa Romeo’s initial cross from the right was blocked, and the striker ignored appeals for handball, crossing again into the middle for Byrne, who stole in to head into the goal off the crossbar.

Slough sensed a second soon after, but Romeo, playing on the right side of midfield, missed a good chance after Platt had played a square ball across goal.

The hosts’ main threat came from set pieces, and with the wind on their side, played a number of free kicks and corners into the middle, which Jamie Jackson and his defence did very well to deal with. On one occasion, a corner floated all the way into the goal, but Jackson was fouled in the process. The Slough ‘keeper also had to be alert to save a low effort from the edge of the box.

Towards the end of the half, Jackson was forced to palm away another effort from distance as Cleeve failed to create any clear-cut chances, whilst Jordan, Romeo and Evans missed half-chances for Slough.

After a fairly close first 45 minutes, Slough emerged as the dominant side in the second half. Danny Jordan had a great chance when he was played through on goal, but Steve Benbow in the Cleeve goal rushed out to save, with Platt unable to get the rebound on target.

Byron Bubb displayed his talents soon after, bursting through two challenges before laying the ball off to the other debutant Kean, whose fierce strike fizzed just wide from 25 yards.

On 65 minutes, a foul on Ricky Allaway 20 yards out gave Bubb the chance to curl a fine effort into the top right corner for Slough’s second goal.

Just five minutes later, the three points were sealed when another set piece from Bubb was curled onto Dean Harper's head, the defender meeting the ball emphatically to record his ninth goal of the season.

With Kean and Byrne controlling the midfield, Bubb was at his creative best, going close with another free kick.

Confidence was oozing through the Rebels and full-backs Webb and Harper were able to get forward on a number of occasions, with the latter’s cross from the right just cleared away from substitute Tom Attrell in the box. Bishops Cleeve continued to struggle against the strong wind, reliant on the big frame of Julian Alsop in attack, who was dealt with well by Allaway and the returning Evans throughout.

The fourth goal arrived seven minutes from time, when a defensive mix up allowed Yashwa Romeo to nip in and knock the ball past Benbow.

With seconds to go, Jackson denied Cleeve a consolation goal with a fine save from a header, with Roy Gumbs making an acrobatic clearance.
