In a match which featured two teams who had conceded over 160 goals between them this season a 0-0 draw someone always seemed likely, and amateur stattos were not to be disappointed as Slough gained a valuable point in a game either team could have won.

Slough arrived at Hayes hoping for a win and hopeful that Bracknell would fall in their match against Abingdon, unfortunately neither happened and the highlight for Slough was Bracknell conceding in the second half of their match and drawing 1-1 against Abingdon.

Slough started very brightly; Jeffreys won the first corner of the match and Pritchard had the resulting goal bound shot blocked.

Davies could have scored twice in the next ten minutes having a shot blocked and seconds later having the ball stuck under his feet when only a couple of yards out and with the goal at his mercy.

Hayes dominated the middle of the half and could have had three goals, the easiest of the chances falling to De Costa who was unable to make contact with the ball whilst the open goal was barely 5 yards in front of him.

Slough finished the half strongly with chances falling to Davies and Jeffreys, neither of whom were able to convert.

After the brightest half Slough had played for quite some time fans were hopeful that we could win all 3 points whilst hoping that Abingdon would score against Bracknell.

The second half started nervously and it wasn’t until half way through that either side created an opening; Pritchard’s mazy run culminating in a shot just off target.

Slough’s best opportunity of the half came in the 68th minute as Davies’ pace took him clear of the defence but his resulting shot was wide by narrowest of margins.

Minutes later Gray (who ran the Hayes defence ragged all game) nearly scored direct from a corner. Only quick thinking and agility from Hayes ‘keeper Jimmy denied the winger.

With ten minutes to go, the game opened up and Pritchard seemed to be brought down in the area, but the referee was unimpressed and waved play on. Hayes had the better of the final few minutes with top-scorer Jordan crashing a dipping shot into the post and De Costa again missing the ball with the goal at his mercy.

On reflection a draw was a fair result, but with Bracknell picking up a valuable point, Slough must see this as two points lost.
