Slough Town remain precariously close to the relegation zone after an improved, but ultimately unrewarded defeat to Braintree Town.
The Rebels started brightly against George Borg's side who the Rebels beat convincingly earlier in the season. Slough's first chance fell to stand-in captain Ian Hodges when a Paul Lorraine mis-kick saw the striker just beaten to the ball by goalkeeper Danny Gay.
In the nineteenth minute Slough went ahead when Steve Good pushed Hodges in the back for a soft penalty. Matt Murphy scored via the post.
The home side gradually began to take control of the game and were back on level terms when the ever dangerous Louis Riddle shot high into the net.
With just minutes remaining in the half the home side went ahead when Bradley Quinton hit a shot over Shaun Allaway to score.
In the second-half Slough looked far more dangerous and were unlucky to not grab a point from the match.
Early in the half a corner from Matt Murphy was headed towards goal at the near post by Martin Moller, only for Gay to produce a stunning save.
The next chance fell to Glen Harris when the midfielder found space in the area following a neat move, but his shot went wide of the post.
Slough continued to push forward in pursuit of an equaliser and threw on Veli Hakki.
And it was the midfielder who set up the final, and arguably best chance of the game when his trickery out on the right saw him pick out Matt Murphy in space, only to see the ball cleared off the line with the ball rebounding to safety.
