Slough Town made a festive trip to Essex in an attempt to put one over on full-time Billericay, but left empty-handed.
Slough made one change from the line up that held on to beat Harrow three days earlier, Alex Haddow returning from suspension to replace Danny Steer who dropped out of the squad.
The Rebels started brightly and Josias Carbon showed his skill by forcing a cross from the right wing, however no Slough player was able to make use of the delivery.
A few moments later it was Alex Haddow who was attacking from the opposite flank. Haddow beat his marker and whipped the ball into the danger area, however Billericay goalkeeper Gothard claimed with ease.
Matt Murphy was next to attack the Billericay goal. Murphy spotted Gothard off his line and attempted a skilful 30 yard shot which dipped just wide.
Slough had not capitalised on the chances they had created and the home side were edging their way into the game. Neil Cousins attempted a crafty shot from the edge of the area; however Alex Haddow was in position to block.
However Billericay were determined to be ahead at half time and their determination paid off. With the break looming, the Slough defence momentarily switched off, Elder got goal side by beating Haddow and found Cousins on the right who blasted the ball past Allaway to give Billericay the advantage.
Just before half time Slough did have a great opportunity to gain an equaliser. Glen Harris whipped in a free kick that found Michael Murphy unmarked, but his volley from an acute angle was tipped over the bar by Gothard.
Throughout the second half Slough looked the dominant side but were unable to break down a resistant Billericay defence. However the Rebels had chances amid some controversial decisions from the officials.
Just after the restart Alex Haddow was brought down in the area by Kieran Gallagher, and Slough players and fans were furious when the referee judged the foul to be just outside the area.
A Steve Daly header from a corner went inches wide and increasingly it felt like this was not to be Slough’s night.
The game was getting more ill-tempered; however the officials didn’t seem to mind the bullyboy tactics Billericay were using. In an attempt to stay in the game Eddie Denton swapped an off form Ian Hodges for Matt Seedel, and the physical substitute made an immediate impact, however not enough to create a much needed goal.
The game continued to be exciting and full of incident, but unfortunately for Slough time was running out. And when Billericay scored a second ten minutes from time, the dream of a comeback was almost over. Nathan Elder made his presence known in the Slough area when he latched on to a free kick to the joy of the home fans.
Matt Murphy had the chance to grab a consolation goal late on, but he was forced off the ball by two Billericay defenders.
