Slough gained a form of revenge of their opening day defeat at Dover with what should have been a comfortable win having been three goals in front. Dover staged a late comeback, but fortunately for the Rebels, could not find an equaliser despte some late pressure.
Slough took the lead in the opening minutes on the counter from a Dover attack. Dover earned a corner and a goalbound header, which appeared to be over the line, was cleared and the goal was not given. Slough sprung the counter attack and Hodges fed in Haddow on the left hand side of the penalty area and his low drive across goal found the bottom corner.
Murphy brought a good save from Jean-Zepherin before the Rebels doubled their lead in the twenty second minute. A long throw into the area wasn't cleared properly and the ball fell to Michael Murphy. His shot made its way through a crowd of players and past Jean-Zepherin putting the Rebels two up.
Slough nearly added a third shortly before half time when Carbon's run was picked out by Metcalfe and his first time side footed effort cannoned back off the bar.
Slough didn't have to wait too long to add their third to the game and it came in the fifty fifth minute. Harris worked himself half a yard of space on the right and his cross was deflected. The high looping ball was coming down at the back post and both Murphy and Hodges challenged Jean-Zepherin, with Hodges climbing highest of the three to head home from close range.
Slough were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when Carbon had been pushed over in the box but it was the away side who did get a penalty awarded from the referee. Allaway guessed correctly, diving to his right, and kept the ball out. The rebound sat up nicely for the Dover players to run onto and they were first to it, but a weak effort saw Allaway recover the rebound.
Dover weren't to be denied though and got on the scoresheet with fifteen minutes left. A long ball forward wasn't dealt with by the Rebels back line and a well struck shot found its way past Allaway.
Hodges had a chance to restore Slough's three goal lead as he ran through onto a long ball but he wasn't able to hit the target.
Dover were very much in the ascendancy now and were pinning the Rebels back. Armstrong headed in at the far post to reduce the deficit and after a lengthy period of injury time the match came to a conclusion with Slough hanging on to their slender lead.
