Slough returned to Merland Rise hoping for a repeat of their previous visit when they trounced Epsom & Ewell, groundsharing at Banstead for the season, by four goals to one on the opening day. It was a complete contrast to the opening day of the season where bright sunshine bathed the ground, but this time strong winds on an overcast day set a very different backdrop for the Rebels.
An injury to Alan Foster meant that veteran keeper Alan Judge was drafted in, but in truth the keeper had little to do on his Rebels debut. The weather was having a factor on both sides play with strong winds blowing across the pitch.
Slough were being forced to play long on the bobbly pitch and invariably the wind took over and carried the ball away from its intended target for much of the half. They did manage to take the lead through Boot as the striker ran through and slammed the ball home.
Slough had the wind at their backs in the second half and had the better of it but as we've seen many times this season were not able to turn the pressure into clear chances. It was a mistake from the home defence which led to the Rebels second when Hodges nipped in to intercept a back pass and turned the ball home to put the Rebels two up.
The home side fought back though and they broke through the Slough defence with the ball being played across goal to an unmarked Ribero to finish at the far post leaving Judge with no chance.
Slough held on comfortably though for their second win in a row following last weeks success against Croydon.
