Promotion chasing Slough Town laboured to beat strugglers Barking & East Ham at Wexham Park on Tuesday - but they maintained their push as one of the form teams in the division as far as results go.
They couldn't have got off to a better start than when Simon Ullathorne was fouled on the edge of the area and Michael Gilkes' quick free kick crashed into the back of the net.
Without the injured Steve Stott and Keith McPherson the Rebels back four looked rather edgy especially on the right hand side.
It was no surprise then when Barking did draw level.
The goal came after Paul Barrowcliff lost the ball in defence and Murray put Jamie Dormer clean through on goal who slotted under Mautone's body.
Barking continued to press the Rebels defence and make the most of the space afforded to them on the left wing.
In a goalmouth scramble, Mautone had to be alert to keep an effort by Murray before the ball was cleared.
But Slough finally restored their lead. Roach received the ball on the right hand side of the area and dribbled past three Barking defenders to shoot low into the net.
Slough did have the ball in the back of the net for a third time late in injury time.
But James was adjudged to have been offside as he headed the ball home from close range.
