Boro strolled to their second successive away league win at Slough on Saturday.

Their glee at the victory, due to a hat-trick from John Lawford, was tempered by the sending off of Pat Gavin with nine mintues left for a push on Slough defender Simon Line. Hacked down from behind in front of the referee, Gavin jumped to his feet and pushed Line in the face. But by then Boro had sewn up the points.

Boro started the game on the back foot, having to repel early pressure from the home side, the only time when they were on top. Slough striker McVie blazed high over from 25 yards, and Boro scrambled the ball clear from a corner.

Otis Roberts could have put Harrow ahead when his free-kick was cleared, and Lawford missed an obvious chance, shooting wide from six yards.

Lawford opened his account in the 16th minute. A through ball from well inside Harrow's half by rapidly improving Danny Nwaokolo was taken in his stride by Lawford and, with a defender snapping at his heels, he calmly sidefooted it into the top of the net.

Boro keeper David Hook made a stunning one-handed save from McVie as Slough tried to get straight back in the game. But again it was Harrow making the best chances and Frankie McCormack was foiled by a last ditch tackle as he raced clear.

Gavin should have doubled Harrow's lead when he headed wide from McCormack's corner, and was thwarted by the keeper.

Harrow missed several chances to stretch their lead, and it needed a great saving tackle by player-manager Alan Paris to prevent an equaliser .

The pattern was repeated in the second half with Otis Roberts troubling Slough with his pace and skill down the right and twice providing crosses from which Gavin headed over. Slough provided a couple of brief threats, with player-manager Paul Hardyman firing narrowly over from 25 yards.

Then Harrow virtually made the game safe with their second goal, after 70 minutes. From a corner by Roberts, Gavin headed goalwards and the ball was clearly handled on to the post by defender Hughes. While Gavin and several Boro players appealed, Lawford reacted and got the last touch as the ball spun into the net.

With the game won, Lawford completed his hat-trick after 78 minutes, slotting home from the edge of the six-yard box following Gavin's downward header from Lord's superb outswinging cross.
