Slough were always expected to win this one comfortably, against a side languishing near the bottom of the Dr Martens League Southern Division, but it was the manner of the victory at Wexham Park on Tuesday that will have boosted confidence after a run of eight games without a win.
The Rebels played some attractive attacking football, moving the ball well, putting in good crosses and taking their opportunities.
Gavin Mernagh was given the chance to start after scoring on Saturday and weighed in with two goals, and Mark Pye hit his first, a spectacular chip from outside the box.
It was a game the home side dominated - it was several minutes before Buckingham even got to kick the ball in Slough's half of the pitch - and the Rebels took the lead In the 11th minute. Mark Fiore stepped up to take a free kick on the right just outside the box and drove it hard and low into the far corner.
Mernagh, Gary Abbott and Gary McGinnis all had chances before Mernagh added the second shortly after the half hour mark. Gary Blackford, who put in a good performance on the right flank all evening, beat two men to put a cross in that the teenager met and headed firmly in.
Pye's delightful and deserved goal came two minutes before the interval and Abbott made it four on the stroke of half-time, finishing off a move his intelligent square ball to Blackford on the right had started.
Just before the hour mark Brian McDermott brought on two more of his youngsters, Michael Murphy and Danny Bolt. The two substitutes had a hand in the fifth goal in the 72nd minute, Bolt playing a good high ball in from the left that Murphy touched on for Blackford to score at the far post.
Another good cross from Bolt provided McGinnis with a header on goal that the keeper did well to tip over. Mernagh scored his second and Slough's sixth in the 83rd minute, slotting in very calmly after he was put clear on goal.
But Mernagh also provided the only worry of the evening, forced to come off five minutes before the end after seeming to collect a bang in the face.
