Slough snatched all three points from a closely-fought confrontation between the teams placed second and third in the league only goal difference separating Slough and Aylesbury.
At the kick-off, Aylesbury were the team in the second slot, but 90 minutes later, it was Slough who came out on top to claim this position.
Both teams produced promising football with the potential of many of the players beginning to become evident.
In the opening period of the game, the Rebels and the Ducks created chances, but both teams insisted on wasting useful opportunities as their tireless efforts either sailed high over the crossbar or went wide, crashing hopelessly into the hoardings.
On 28 minutes, Catlin gained possession and passed with accuracy to Bushay, whose cross found West in a perfect position to force the ball past the helpless Paul O'Reilly.
But immediately after the goal, the game returned to squandered openings, with both sides producing possibilities on goal but failing to secure the final move to slot the ball home.
At half-time, Aylesbury made a substitution, with Matt Hayward replacing former-Slough player Alan Pluckrose, now the Ducks' player/coach.
The second-half started on a par with the first. However, 10 minutes later, two players were down with head injuries following a late challenge from Roberts. This led to the Rebels' defender taking a yellow card and Blencowe being stretchered off to be replaced by Paul Murray.
Roberts also departed from the field with a head wound, and two minutes later, Tony Dell came on in his place.
On 64 minutes, the Rebels almost added to the 1-0 scoreline when a Bushay shot struck the left post when the Slough fans all thought the ball was on its way into the back of the net.
Their disappointment turned to frustration when Andy Sayer was shown the red card on 75 minutes for a second bookable offence. He had been booked earlier for not being ten yards hack from an Aylesbury free-kick, and he received the second card for kicking the ball after the referee had stopped play. In his defence, Sayer claimed he hadn't heard the whistle.
Slough then made their second substitution, bringing Blackman on for Bushay. His first encounter on the pitch was as the recipient of a sliding tackle which earned Paul Murray a booking.
The game gathered pace, and Clement and Blackman both had their names taken for fouls. Aylesbury's Michael Danzey did actually place the ball home, but was adjudged offside.
