Slough lost their way in the fog against the bogeymen from Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday evening.

And as a result they find themselves out of the AC Delco Cup yet again at a stage where their Premier Division status should see them progressing.

The whole affair turned out to be a nightmare for the Slough camp, with Jeff Bateman having a leg seizure on the coach, Tommy Langley turning up late, Mark Hill hobbling off in the second half and Slough turning in a less than satisfactory performance.

A dejected Alan Davies reflected on the match: "I thought in the first half, without creating too much, we were in control, but in the second half we lost our way."

Tony Knight returned from suspension, but with Bateman out, Mark Hill stayed as centre back.
During the opening exchanges, Trevor Bunting twice saved well in the Slough goal from strikes by Devon Gayle, but the match began to settle into the midfield area.

When the Rebels did try to attack, their ball into the box was nothing short of appalling, and. Mark Adams, at the moment a pale shadow of his early season form, just couldn't provide a decent corner kick from one of the many Slough had.

Steve Thompson shot over from the edge of the box after Tony Dell had been brought down and the best of the Slough pressure came in the last three first half minutes.

Trevor How floated in a cross which Thompson headed over the keeper and just wide of the post and, two minutes later, the Rebels won a free kick on the right. How crossed it in, Gary Dodd's header ran to Adams in the box, but the wide man, in space, pushed a poor shot into the keeper's path.

The second half started with the home side looking quick and lively. It took only a further eight minutes for Stortford to take the lead after overwhelming the Slough defence.

Scott Young found himself in space but had his shot superbly tipped over by Bunting. The resulting corner was headed onto the bar and fell for Went, who crossed for Gayle to sidefoot home at the near post

Slough's only real on target effort came after 64 minutes when Mark Mallinson, in for the late Tommy Langley, headed Mark Adams' corner goalwards for Taylor to tip over.

With 73 minutes gone, a static Slough defence watched a corner bounce off the crossbar and Young headed home the rebound. Still nothing happened up front for Slough as Stortford started queuing up to have a go at the Rebels.

Gayle shot across the face of goal as Stortford moved quickly down both wings, and only poor finishing stopped the cupholders from dealing out further punishment, as the game drew to a close.
