Striker Dave Russell couldn't have chosen a more opportune time to hit his first ever hat-trick for Slough Town.

For Russell, unable to win a regular first team place this season, blasted himself to the forefront on Tuesday night, just three days after taking a tongue-lashing from the Rebels boss.

Russell, who dearly wants to play in next week's FA Cup tie against Millwall, seemed to have blown his chances with a poor display against Hayes on Saturday. But he was a changed man on Tuesday night, buzzing around like an eager beaver and impressing his manager with a skilful and determined performance.

"It was great to see Dave in such fine form. I had harsh words with him after Saturday's match but I decided to stick by him and he repaid my faith.," said manager Reardon, whose team picked up their first £100 four - goal win bonus from this match.

After two successive Isthmian League defeats things started badly for Slough when Tony Doherty handled a Lance Cadogan header on the line and Micky Cook drilled the 15th minute penalty past Frank Parsons.

But Slough equalised with a gem of a goal in the 35th minute. Vaughan Powell cleverly created midfield space, punted the ball forward, and the alert Russell sped on to collect Rowan Dodds' headed pass and steer it past Kevin Mitchell.

Leatherhead, under former Windsor manager Brian Caterer, had looked a shade the better side until then but they disintegrated after half-time.

Mitchell defied Russell with an acrobatic save after 47 minutes, and then dived to his left to smother a Rowan Dodds penalty after Lee Harwood had sent Keith White sprawling.

But Slough were soon in front when Russell whipped in his second from close range, and he confidently stepped forward to claim a 67th minute penalty - again conceded by Harwood, who tripped Attrell. Although Mitchell dived to his left to make a brilliant one-handed save, Russell followed up to blast the rebound home.

That was hard luck on Mitchell and when Dylan Evans headed in Keith White's curling cross for the fourth, the Langley man was again a shade unlucky not to prevent a goal.

But there was little he could do in the 82nd minute when Evans collected his second and Slough's fifth with a low shot into the corner from close range after Dodds had skipped past three defenders.
