Redhill, twice holders of the Athenian League Cup, made a very quick exit from this year's competition against the present holders, Slough Town.

With Roger Day and Paul Giggle injured, Slough were not at full strength, but they were still good enough to defeat Redhill. The Surrey side has been playing Slough in many competitions for six years and can only show two drawn games against a string of Town successes. Chatterton and Jamieson were the Slough scorers.

Slough played Geoff Anthony, their latest signing from St Albans City, but, unfortunately, he had to leave the field injured after 18 minutes and was replaced by Hunn. It was once again in midfield that Slough were at their strongest.

Reardon, Reid and Tottman gave the home side little room to move, while, up front, Chatterton gained more than his fair share of attention from the overworked Redhill defence. As it was, two goals, the first in the 12th minute from Chatterton and the second in the 61st from Jamieson, settled the issue and Redhill cannot have any argument over a just result.

From the start Slough were just that much sharper than Redhill, a D'Arcy free-kick was cleared away in the fifth minute, and, following a Redhill corner in the eighth. Slough pressed forward and Eaton hit a good effort over the bar; within seconds Anthony hit the upright; and then in the 12th Slough were in front. Reardon and O'Sullivan combined for the new full-back to centre for Chatterton to control well before smashing the ball home.

In the 18th minute Hunn came on for Anthony and Slough lost a little of their rhythm but not for long. Jamieson went close on two occasions, in the 22nd minute a free-kick to Slough on the left was half-cleared to Jamieson who shot wide.

As Slough relaxed slightly the Redhill forwards became evident for the first time, Delaney had a shot rebound off the bar for Algar to fire in again but Mead was on the line to clear away.

In the 61st minute Slough were two up, after a Reardon effort had been cleared the ball went straight to the Slough area but Wolstenholme cleared well and Chatterton laid the ball off well to Jamieson, who made no mistake with a fine volley giving Stuart no chance.

After this the game was merely a procession and Slough emphasised their superiority by gaining corners in the 82nd, 84th, 85th and 88th minutes.
