League
For their first home premier fixture of the season Slough had Epsom as visitors, who at the end of last season had to apply for re-election to the Corinthian League.
Since then they have made definite improvement in their playing strength; notable additions to their ranks being Faggeter and Boatwright, two very good forwards who last season were playing for Erith and Belvedere.
In their opening game Epsom trounced Tilbury, a result which at that time was considered a “surprise” but was clearly understandable after their good showing at the Dolphin last Saturday when they were unfortunate in not securing a point.
Slough made one of the best moves of the game in the opening minutes, which culminated in Disborough making a grand save from Angell.
A few minutes later Epsom came near to opening the score, but Wiltshire thwarted the threat with a brilliant tip over the bar.
After ten minutes, Slough took the lead, when following good work by Kornas and Goodchild, Parham neatly steered the ball into the Epsom net. It looked odds on the visitor being two down, when with Disborough out of his goal three rapid shots were charged down and eventually cleared by desperate defenders.
Epsom cutting out the embroidery, looked menacing when on the attack, and deservedly equalized through Musto, after half-an-hour. This player often had Woodford going the wrong way.
An even first half ended with the teams sharing two goals. After the interval, both sides made determined efforts to get in front, and after fifteen minutes Slough got the all-important goal. Clements thoughtfully turned the ball back for Parham to run on to and score from twenty yards.
The last quarter-of-an-hour was mostly Epsom, but good keeping by Wiltshire and determined tackling by Brown and Sutch, kept Slough in front at the final whistle.
