Arbour Park witnessed a masterclass from the Rebels this afternoon as Slough cruised to a 4-0 win against Hungerford Town, writes David Tancred.
Slough opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute through an own goal by Luke Delaney.
The ball was played over the top towards Matt Lench, who drove with the ball down the left-hand side, into the box and crossed into Ogo Obi with the ball striking Delaney first and bouncing into the Hungerford net.
The Rebels doubled their lead just a few minutes later through Shane Bush. Matt Lench was once again at the heart of the action as he whipped in a beautiful cross towards Bush, who finished at the second attempt for his first goal for the club.
Obi joined in on the action on 18 minutes after Johnny Goddard got the ball down the right hand side and provided a superb ball to Josh Jackman, who forced a save out of Jed Ward – but the rebound fell to the striker who smashed home Slough’s third and Obi’s third goal this week.
On the half hour mark, Hungerford tried to get back into the game after delivering a dangerous ball in towards George Smith who headed just over the bar.
Obi thought he had made it 4-0 on 49 minutes after some brilliant passing down the left hand side for the Rebels found the striker in the middle, and his looping shot went into the net - however the offside flag was up.
Johnny Goddard had a chance for the Rebels four minutes later as he linked up with Lench on the edge of the box, with the winger having a shot saved by Ward.
Slough struck the post moments later as Obi received a ball over the top and rounded Ward - but, off balance, he attempted a chip from an awkward angle and struck the woodwork.
However, the Rebels did score their fourth goal on 59 minutes after some sensational work from Obi. The forward is in superb form at the moment and he dribbled past Kyle Bailey and to the byline, before hitting a ball into the box which ricocheted into the Hungerford goal off Jerry Gyebi – the second own goal of the game.
On 77, Johnny Goddard nearly wrapped up an incredible performance with a goal after getting in behind the Hungerford defence, however Ward made himself big to deny the Slough man.
Obi nearly made it five in the 80th minute, after a brilliant ball from substitute Louis Walsh found the forward who was through on goal, however Rhys Tyler got back and put in a superb challenge to deny the forward.
Today’s result is the first time the Rebels have beaten Hungerford Town since 2019, with Scott Davies’ side unbeaten in their last three games.
Slough now turn their attention to a trip to Eastbourne Borough next Saturday.
