Slough were defeated by a dominant Havant & Waterlooville at Arbour Park, writes David Tancred.
Slough took the lead on 12 minutes through Elliot Benyon after manager Scott Davies chipped a brilliant ball towards Luca Woodhouse on the right hand side. Woodhouse then put in a superb cross towards Benyon, whose header looped over Brad House and into the net.
Havant & Waterlooville pushed for an equaliser and almost got it on 22 minutes after Danny Wright’s header in the six yard area went wide of Rhys Forster’s goal.
The visitors got their equaliser on 40 minutes after Jamie Collins headed Josh Passley’s ball into the area across goal, with Jake McCarthy’s effort being blocked on the line by Davies before the rebound fell to Charlie Ruff who slotted home.
The visitors nearly took the lead just before half time with McCarthy getting on the end of a corner but the header thankfully went just wide of the post.
In stoppage time, James Roberts struck the post after driving at the Slough defence and unleashing an effort towards Forster - the ball striking the outside of the post with the first half ending level.
Havant took the lead just after halftime on 47 minutes, with Billy Clifford’s corner finding Danny Wright in the area who headed the ball past Forster.
On 60, Forster produced a fantastic save after Roberts found Ruff in the six yard area with the effort being blocked from close range by the Rebels keeper.
Forster produced yet another magnificent save on 81, denying Roberts’ curling effort from inside the area which was destined for the top corner.
Despite the dominance of Havant & Waterlooville, the Rebels never gave up hope of producing a late charge to try and get an equaliser.
On 89, Slough had a huge chance after Gabe George whipped in a delightful ball to Imran Kayani. The number 19 found himself free couple yards in front of the goal but failed to get a clean connection with the danger eventually being cleared by Havant.
Arnold Matshazi had a chance in the final minute after the referee awarded an indirect free kick just inside the area. The effort was set up for Matshazi whose effort was saved by House with the keeper also saving the rebound from Kayani.
Two minutes into stoppage time, Havant extended their lead after the Rebels committed many men forward to get an equaliser, with the visitors hitting Slough on the break. James Roberts got in behind the Rebels’ defence and squared the ball to Clifford who wrapped up the three points for the visitors.
Slough are now 12 games in the league without a win with Chelmsford City up next for the Rebels on Monday night.
