Simon Dunn saw an 85th-minute penalty saved as Slough had to settle for a draw against Torquay United at Arbour Park.

Referee Steven Hughes was in no doubt with the award of the spot-kick after substitute Ben Harris was chopped down when bearing down on goal, but Torquay keeper Alex Bass, on loan from Portsmouth, moved to his left to keep out Dunn’s effort, which whilst well-struck, was at a good height to be saved as the midfielder failed to find the bottom corner.

Slough were denied a third straight win in National League South as a result, but were well worth the point they did pick up despite the visitors creating some good openings in the second period. The Gulls found Rebels keeper Jack Turner in top form on numerous occasions.

The home side started on the front foot, with Chris Flood heading over and Torquay surviving a scramble following a James Dobson corner.

Torquay’s first big chance was spurned by Brett Williams, who scuffed his effort when well placed, with the ball rolling harmlessly wide.

Chances were at a premium in a tight, cagey first half, and Torquay could only muster half-chances with Jamie Reid twice firing off-target.

The Devon side threatened early after the break, and hit the post following good work from Jason Banton, who had replaced Ben Wynter earlier in the game in a tactical switch.

Turner made the first of three magnificent saves on 52 minutes as he rushed out to smother the ball when it looked as if Williams had burst clean through on goal.

Twelve minutes later, Turner performed heroics again, saving at full stretch from Reid, with the striker putting the rebound wide.

A double change for the Rebels saw Ben Harris and Warren Harris replace the tireless Perry Coles and Louie Soares, and Slough continued trying to break down Torquay’s powerful defensive unit. But the Rebels needed Turner to keep the scores level again on 77 minutes, with Reid again thwarted as the keeper blocked his effort.

Then, with five minutes remaining, Slough were presented with a golden chance to win all three points after George Essuman's clumsy challenge, but Bass saved to ensure his side would not suffer a second consecutive defeat.
