A late penalty by Tony Boot earned a point for the Rebels in this local derby against Staines Town. The Rebels dominated the first-half and had a goal ruled out early on when Matt Miller forced an Ian Hodges cross into the net, only for it to be ruled out for offside.
The home side continued to be the better of the two sides with Staines struggling to put two-passess together at this early stage of the match. Slough did eventually get the breakthrough. A cross into the penalty area by Paul Barrowcliff was misjudged by Matt Lovett allowing Hodges to score.
The Rebels had a lot of possession, but failed to create many chances and although Staines did not look impressive up-front their defence looked strong at the back.
The second-half was a complete contrast to the first as Staines began to play the football that their league position suggests they were capable of. They equalised when former Aylesbury striker Kezie Ibe kept the ball in play before hitting a tremendous right-footed shot from the edge of the area into the net.
They could have then gone ahead when Jake Newton pounced on some hesitancy in the Slough defence only to see his shot rebound off the post and rebound to safety. The next chance fell to former Kingstonian defender Julian Sills when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball hit Sills in the mid-drift only yards from goal. He could not control the ball however, and the chance was gone.
Ibe set up Staines second when his run and cross found Jon Henry-Hayden at the back post who headed past Foster. Just as it seemed the Rebels would end up pointless a handball in the area by former Kingstonian defender Julian Sills allowed Boot to score from the spot.
A good first-half performance by the Rebels - but perhaps they were lucky to escape with a point with a disappointing second-half showing.
